Designed by Carlo Nason for A.V. Mazzega in the late 1960s and produced around 1970, the LT 354 adopts the archetypal form of the mushroom lamp. A broad hemispherical dome appears to float above a cylindrical stem, while the circular base repeats the same glass decoration. Based on a balance of elementary forms, the composition contrasts the visual lightness of the glass with the rigorous, dark presence of the metal column.
The diffuser and base were blown in Murano from transparent glass incorporating a white glass merletto pattern. Opaque filaments were arranged in a network within the molten material, then stretched and shaped while hot. This slightly textured lattice produces an optical vibration that becomes especially animated when the lamp is illuminated. The dome is held in place by small metal fittings connected to a central stem, probably made of nickel-plated or chrome-plated metal. Each blown-glass element displays subtle variations in pattern, thickness and transparency, reflecting its semi-artisanal manufacture.
The value of the LT 354 lies in the scale of its glass components, the complexity of their decoration and the rarity of complete surviving examples.

Carlo Nason is one of the leading figures in Italian Murano glass lighting design of the second half of the twentieth century. Heir to a long family tradition linked to Venetian glassmaking, he developed a distinctive approach in which mastery of the ancestral techniques of blown glass is combined with a constant exploration of form, light, and material. Working notably with A.V. Mazzega, he designed in the 1960s and 1970s lighting fixtures that have become iconic, distinguished by the purity of their volumes, the richness of their transparency effects, and the virtuosity of their handcrafted production. The LT 316 and LT 354 models exemplify this exceptional period: composed of hand-worked Murano glass elements, they reflect a sophisticated exploration of light diffusion and sculptural composition. Produced in limited quantities, these rare and precious pieces embody the unique dialogue between industrial design and glassmaking craftsmanship, and are now among the most sought-after creations by collectors of twentieth-century Italian design.
