Designed in 2007 by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec for Swarovski Crystal Palace, the Caillou lamp takes the form of a dense, perfectly polished transparent pebble. Its faceted volume breaks the light into prismatic reflections while almost entirely concealing the light source. When switched off, it appears as an autonomous mineral object; when illuminated, it seems to radiate from within the crystal itself.
The piece is cut and polished from a substantial block of Swarovski crystal. An LED, integrated into a chrome-plated reflective device, visually merges with the material. A touch-sensitive system controls the light, while a concealed rechargeable battery allows cordless use.
Its value lies in the optical quality of the crystal, the precision of its cutting and the miniaturisation of its components. Produced as part of an experimental series of 13 pieces the lamp has become rare.

Ronan Bouroullec and Erwan Bouroullec occupy a major place in the history of contemporary design.
