Designed in 1999 by Ronan Bouroullec this vase belongs to the Torique collection, produced in Vallauris. Its low, circular form is based on two concentric walls: one defines the outer volume, while the other encloses a central cavity. The white body contrasts with a vivid orange inner ring, whose glossy glaze emphasises the object’s thickness and depth.
Made by master potter Claude Aïello, the piece was hand-thrown in white clay. The separate elements were assembled, dried, fired and then partially glazed. The double-wall construction required considerable technical skill to preserve the regularity of the forms.
Its value lies in this complex construction, its artisanal production and its manufacture as a prototype. Works from the Torique collection are held by the Centre national des arts plastiques and the Musée de la Céramique in Vallauris.
