Designed in 2001 by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and made in France by Coromandel, the Centerpiece consists of two circular steel trays, superimposed and slightly offset. Their shallow profile and subtle curvature create the impression of a floating disc. Gradations of blue, violet and green animate the surface and alter the perception of depth according to the viewing angle and the light.
The automotive steel is cut, shaped and then coated with paint applied in progressive transitions, using a process related to car-body finishing techniques. The smooth, luminous surface transforms a functional object into an almost immaterial chromatic composition.
Its value lies in the precision of its manufacture and its highly limited edition of twenty examples and one artist’s proof.

Ronan Bouroullec and Erwan Bouroullec occupy a major place in the history of contemporary design.
