Designed in 2001 by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec and produced by Galerie kreo, the Luminous Vase, also known as the TV Vase, combines the functions of vase, light and image. Its rectangular shell with rounded corners recalls a television screen, while the illuminated blue background forms a stage for a small arrangement of flowers. The orange electrical cable, deliberately left visible, extends the object as a graphic line.

The structure is made from fibreglass-reinforced polyester, moulded and finished with metallic lacquer. An integrated fluorescent tube, controlled by a dimmer, produces an even light that transforms the bouquet into a composition of shadows and colours.

Its value lies in its experimental character and extremely limited edition: eight examples, together with two artist’s proofs. Examples are held in the collections of the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and the Centre national des arts plastiques, with one on deposit at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris.

Designer :

Ronan et Erwan Bouroullec

Ronan Bouroullec and Erwan Bouroullec occupy a major place in the history of contemporary design. Since the late 1990s, their practice has ranged from furniture to lighting, from objects to installations, as well as interior design and drawing, which they approach as a field of research in its own right. Their work is distinguished by a reflection on systems, modularity, and the relationships between object, space, and user, combining technical innovation, structural rigor, and economy of means. Through their collaborations with leading international publishers, they have made a profound contribution to the renewal of French design on the international stage. Their works are included in the permanent collections of the most important institutions dedicated to art, design, and architecture, and are regularly the subject of solo exhibitions.
