The new Zodiac Bumper mirror is more than just a variation on the now iconic Zodiac mirror.
Its reflective metallic surface gives it a completely different materiality to its black or white predecessors.
While the former sought to imitate as realistically as possible the inflatable structure of the boat of the same name and the nautical codes associated with it, the Zodiac Bumper succeeds instead in creating a striking ambiguity about the material from which it is made, and even corrupting our perception.
Still made of ceramic its metallic enamel finish is applied with a spray gun in several successive coats, and the Zodiac Bumper is fired 3 times before revealing its effect.
